EEE Category 6 - Electrical and electronic tools

(with the exception of large-scale stationary industrial tools)

This list of products is taken from the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations. The list is not exhaustive but shows examples of the type of products included in the broader category of electrical and electronic tools.

  • Drills
  • Saws
  • Sewing machines
  • Equipment for turning, milling, sanding, grinding, sawing, cutting, shearing, drilling, making holes, punching, folding, bending or similar processing of wood, metal and other materials
  • Tools for riveting, nailing or screwing or removing rivets, nails, screws or similar uses
  • Tools for welding, soldering or similar use
  • Equipment for spraying, spreading, dispersing or other treatment of liquid or gaseous substances by other means
  • Tools for mowing or other gardening activities

Large-scale stationary industrial tools are specifically exempt under this category. There is currently no clear guidance on the scope of EEE covered by this exemption and it is difficult for us to give advice with certainty. Our present view is based on all of the following criteria:

  • Consists of a combination of equipment, systems, products and/or components (therefore not a singe discrete tool such as a small or medium scale lathe, milling machine or pillar drill)
  • Is a tool and is not covered under any other category
  • Is required to be fixed to operate safely or within specification
  • Is of ‘large-scale’
  • Requires professional installation
  • Only used in an industrial environment
  • Is built to perform a specific task

If your product is an electrical or electronic tool, you need to read about other exemptions.
