The article is correct in the action we have taken and points out to all producers of EEE the importance of understanding the way in which product is produced. Construction factories often produce both RoHS compliant and Non-RoHS compliant products for different global markets. Understanding this process and ensuring that there are suitable controls in place to prevent contamination and substitution is a vital part of any producers systems.

BERR publishes consultation on amending the RoHS regulations

This amendment changes the approach that is used for implementing exemptions into UK regulations meaning that Commission decisions automatically enter into UK law when published in the OJ and adds additional investigation powers to continue to support the cooperative relationship between compliant industry and the enforcement body.

SI 2005 No 2748

Following the publication in August of Commission Decision 2005/618 establishing the RoHS Directive's maximum concentration values, the UK's RoHS Regulations (SI 2005 No 2748) were laid before Parliament on Friday 7th October 2005.

The commission has passed a decision exempting the use of Deca BDE and lead in lead-bronze bearing shells and bushes.

This has yet to be passed into UK law but can now be progressed. Further exemptions are due for a decision, therefore DTI presently intend to wait to progress as a batch.
